Run or walk to Ballygar Carnival!
THE fourth annual St Brendan's Ladies Football Club 10km Fun Run and Walk will take place on Sunday 5th August as part of the brilliant Ballygar Carnival Festival. The Club ran the event for the first time in 2009 with over 100 participants and this number has grown steadily, with over 160 last year. Part of the success is thanks to the event sponsor ECC Timber who have come on board again for the 2012 run. Ballygar Carnival Festival runs from Thursday 2nd August to Tuesday 7th. On Sunday 5th there will also be a marching bands competition, a children's fancy dress and amusements, followed by musical entertainment on the street and in the Mattie McDonagh Centre. The road race will start and finish at Coláiste Mhuire Secondary School, Ballygar with registration on the day from 9.30 a.m. It is a flat and fast route that will be well signed and marshalled, and with water stops along the way. The winning time in 2011 was 35:59 completed by Ballygar local Adrian Smith. The route is officially measured and the 2011 race was AAI permitted. Walkers will start at 11 a.m. followed by the runners at 11.30. A shorter distance will also be available on the day with special prizes for the first family, first dog and first buggy to cross the finish line! The event will be followed by refreshments and presentation of prizes in Coláise Mhuire.
