Enter the race in beautiful Connemara
GALWAY Walking Club is currently accepting registrations for its 16th annual marathon and half marathon, which take place in August. The route of the full marathon will go from Killary to Maam Bridge, tracking some of the most spectacular scenery in the country and following, for the most part, the Western Way. Most of the walk will be on the flat, with its highest point being Maumeen, at 259m. Approximately just one third of the marathon will be on the road and the rest will be on green road or forest track, with spectacular views of Killary Fjord, the Maumturks and the Twelve Bens. The half marathon will start near the Tooreenacoona River and continue along the Western Way.[private] All walkers will be brought to the start of their walk by bus, which will leave the Community Centre in Maam Bridge at 8am for the full marathon and at 9.30am for the half marathon, and all participants will receive a well-earned meal in the Maam Bridge Community Centre on completion of the walk. Pre-registration for the event is required and registration details can be downloaded from the club website at galwaywalkingclub.wordpress.com/marathon For further information email the club at galwaywalkingclub@gmail.com or phone Jerry Lalor, marathon co-ordinator, at 0872153689.
