The undemocratic disconnect

Dear Editor,
Apart from bailouts, which are not gifts and must be repaid with interest, we know that the public funds necessary to run the country are raised from taxes and other forms of payment, taken from people by democratically elected governments.
Every person living in the country, be they native or immigrant, contributes money to the State in one form or another. All consumers of essential or discretionary goods and services see some of their money go to the State every time they put their hands in their pockets.
