TUAM celebrates the 400th anniversary of its charter as a town next year. As the date draws closer, the Old Tuam Society will be holding a number of events to commemorate and promote this historic milestone. One of the first events held by the Society leading up to the 400th anniversary was the hosting of a lecture entitled 'From Tribal Rule to Sovereign Rule â€â€ the Emergence of Local Government in Tuam, 1613-1840'. Former OTS President Dr Gabriel O'Connor, delivered this lecture in February 2011. Part Two of the lecture will take place in October 2012, and will outline the role of Local Government in Tuam in more contemporary times. In preparation for the Quadricentennial celebrations, the Old Tuam Society will be giving a PowerPoint presentation to the Tuam Town Council, Chamber of Commerce and local Tuam groups, to outline the role the local government played in Tuam. Dr Gabriel O'Connor will give the presentation. Representatives from the Old Tuam Society will include Dr O'Connor, Dr Tony Claffey and committee members. The presentation will be held on Thursday February 23 at 8.30 upstairs in the Town Hall.
